Severin Winkler
I’ve been working in cyber security since 2007 and currently live near Linz. My interests sit where technical depth meets business reality — I enjoy digging into complex systems, breaking them in controlled ways, and then explaining what it actually means for the people running them.
My career started on the research side at SBA Research in Vienna, where I spent several years as a researcher and project manager working on penetration testing, network security, secure software development, and mobile security. Since 2016 I’ve been with KPMG Austria’s Cyber Security team, advising organisations across a wide range of industries — currently with a lot of focus on NIS-2, DORA, OT security, and Microsoft-based architectures.
Teaching
Passing things on is important to me. I lectured at several Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences:
- TU Wien — Software Security
- FH Campus Wien — Risk Management & Intrusion Detection Systems
- FH Technikum Wien — Secure Operating Systems
- FH Hagenberg, among others
I also run seminars for imh and ARS Akademie on ICT risk management, DORA and NIS in the financial sector.
Speaking
I like talking at meetings and conferences about topics like penetration testing and system security — among others at Security Forum Hagenberg and IT-SECX in St. Pölten.
Qualifications
- Mag. rer. soc. oec., Business Informatics — University of Vienna & TU Wien
- OSCP, GIAC GNFA, CISSP, CSSLP, …
Beyond the keyboard
When I’m not in front of a computer, I spend time with my family, read as many books as I can get my hands on and run through the countryside
